CUT-A-DOR 1.2.1 — THE EXTRA CRATE
48 additional recorded hits. Three small banks. Zero borrowed record breaks.

DUSTY ROOM — close, dry kicks and snares, live hats, bongo, side stick and toms.
VELVET CUT — ribbon colour, softer snare articulations, shaker, tambourine and toms.
BREAK PIT — retro and lo-fi microphone colour, a rimshot, conga, cajon and wood.

These are 48 different source recordings, not 48 pitch changes of a few hits.
Six extra sounds in each category: kick, snare, closed/pedal hat, open/half hat,
clap, percussion, rim/wood and tom/extra. Each bank has exactly two of every
category, so selecting its User Bank kit fills all eight rhythm tracks and all
16 drum pads. The second pad row uses the second articulation of each category.

Listen first
------------
audition/three-banks-groove-88bpm.wav plays four dry bars from each bank, with a
one-second gap. The three *-hits.wav files play each stored sound individually,
in zone order; matching tracklists give timestamps. These auditions are decoded
from the actual compressed bank audio. They are not master recordings and do
not include the device's Dust, Noise or filters. Add that colour to taste.

Load a bank in the editor
------------------------
1. Open Sound Crate and use OPEN BANK to choose a .cadb file.
2. Select a User Bank slot. Suggested layout: 1 Dusty Room, 2 Velvet Cut, 3 Break Pit.
3. LOAD INTO DOJO auditions the bank in the browser. Select its User Bank kit.
4. For the hardware, stop playback and save your current project. Connect the
FM-1 by USB, FIND MIDI PORTS, choose the FM-1 input/output, CONNECT TO FM-1,
then SEND BANK. Wait for the device-confirmed completion before disconnecting.
5. Select the corresponding User Bank kit on the FM-1 and save the project.

SEND BANK replaces only the selected user-bank slot. Preserve any custom bank
by keeping its original .cadb file before replacing it. Installing the application
image and loading expansion banks are separate operations unless the release
installer explicitly offers both. A .cadb is a sound bank, never a firmware update.
These bank transfers and the new firmware still need their physical FM-1 check;
the included checks are software tests, not a claim of tested hardware transfer.

What the banks do not do
-----------------------
No miracle time stretching, no secret vocal stems, no recording from your decks,
no cymbal that magically lasts forever in 80 KiB. Every bank is at most 80 KiB
and 16 sounds. The sampler retains its 16-voice limit. The 12 existing original
break arrangements remain available separately; these expansion files add hits.

Format and sound preparation
----------------------------
Mono recordings, 16 kHz for kicks/toms and 22.05 kHz for the other categories.
High-quality antialiased resampling, onset trim with 1 ms pre-roll, DC removal,
a short raised-cosine end fade and peak normalization to 26000/32768. Natural
recorded tails are retained within the bank budget. No pitch shifting, added
hiss, fake crackle or baked-in artificial reverb. The stored format is seekable
IMA ADPCM, 132 bytes per 256 frames, with a 512-byte bank header and CRC checks.
Its 4-bit encoding is lossy: the decoded sound, not the original full-resolution
recording, is what the audition files demonstrate.

Rebuild
-------
Extract Soundbank-Source.zip and run: python3 build_banks.py
The included compact PCM plus manifest rebuild the .cadb files byte-for-byte
with Python's standard library alone. Original source recordings are also
included; fetch_sources.py can retrieve the exact pinned originals and verifies
Git blob hashes. prepare_pcm.py documents the preprocessing pipeline and needs
NumPy, SoundFile and macOS afconvert. Preprocessing byte identity is platform-
dependent; the bundled compact PCM is the canonical reproducible build input.
